The much-anticipated 2024 Super Bowl is on the horizon, featuring an electrifying showdown between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs in the vibrant city of Las Vegas on Sunday, February 11.

While fans across the nation eagerly await the clash, there’s a catch for those dreaming of witnessing the spectacle in person – the ticket prices are reaching unprecedented heights.

On the resale giant Seat Geek, the average ticket price has skyrocketed to an astonishing $12,082, presenting a considerable investment for enthusiasts.

For those scouring the listings on Seat Geek, the most economical option available stands at a hefty $9,858, as shared by Seat Geek in an email correspondence with CBS News on Monday.

This eye-watering figure marks a substantial 36% surge in the average Super Bowl ticket price compared to last year’s corresponding period. Seat Geek attributes this surge, at least partly, to the allure of the Super Bowl being hosted in the dazzling city of Las Vegas.

This tendency of elevated prices in appealing travel destinations has been a recurring theme. In 2022, when Los Angeles played host to the Super Bowl, the average ticket prices soared to $10,322, further fueled by the Rams, the hometown team that made it to the grand event.

Similarly, in 2021, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers took on the Chiefs in their home stadium, the average ticket price reached $11,840, even with reduced capacity due to COVID-19 restrictions.

A closer look at the average resale ticket prices for the past five Super Bowls, 13 days before the event, according to Seat Geek, reveals the following figures:

  • 2023 Super Bowl LVII (Chiefs vs. Eagles), Glendale, Arizona — $8,907
  • 2022 Super Bowl LVI (Rams vs. Bengals), Los Angeles, California — $10,322
  • 2021 Super Bowl LV (Buccaneers vs. Chiefs), Tampa, Florida — $11,840 (reduced capacity)
  • 2020 Super Bowl LIV (Chiefs vs. 49ers), Miami, Florida — $6,569
  • 2019 Super Bowl LIII (Patriots vs. Rams), Atlanta, Georgia — $5,329

As a crucial player in the ticketing landscape, Seat Geek operates as part of the NFL’s Officially Licensed Ticketing Platforms, ensuring customers of the authenticity of their tickets.

However, for those exploring alternatives, Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Marketplace of the NFL, displays the lowest ticket price at $8,333, with the best seats commanding a staggering $47,500.

While it’s customary for Super Bowl ticket prices to experience a spike immediately after the conference championship games – played on Sunday – Seat Geek indicates a subsequent decline as the grand event approaches.

Interest in these high-priced tickets is concentrated in specific locations, with Seat Geek reporting that 27% of sales come from California, 13% from Texas, 10% from Nevada, 7% from Kansas City, and 5% from Florida.

The San Francisco 49ers, veterans of seven previous Super Bowls with five victories in the 1980s and 90s, are led by quarterback Brock Purdy in their pursuit of glory in Super Bowl LVIII.

On the other side, defending champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, boast quarterback MVP Patrick Mahomes, a two-time Super Bowl MVP.

The team’s profile received an additional boost this year with the presence of Taylor Swift, who is romantically linked with tight end Travis Kelce, attending games and drawing attention to the box seats where she passionately supports the team.

As fans speculate about Swift’s attendance, considering her concert in Tokyo the day before the Super Bowl, the possibility remains uncertain. With approximately 13 hours of flight time, there is a window for her to make it to Las Vegas just in time for the game, but her travel plans remain undisclosed.

Super Bowl LVIII is poised to unfold live from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, captivating audiences on CBS, Nickelodeon, and Paramount+ on February 11.

The intersection of sports, entertainment, and glamour promises an unforgettable Super Bowl experience in the heart of the dynamic city of Las Vegas.
