A former member of Donald Trump’s administration is in critical condition after being shot during a night of carjackings in Washington, D.C., as reported by his family. Mike Gill, who served at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission under the Trump administration, was attacked on Monday evening, according to his LinkedIn profile and local outlet WTOP.
The incident took place in the 900 block of K Street NW around 5:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29, in the nation’s capital, as confirmed by Gill’s family to FOX 5. The assailant allegedly entered Gill’s car, shot him, and fled the scene.
In a statement to FOX 5, a spokesperson for Gill praised him as an “amazing” husband, father, friend, and colleague, highlighting his warmth, kindness, and ability to connect with others. The spokesperson also emphasized Gill’s love for his family.

Gill’s carjacking is part of a series of recent armed carjackings in D.C. and Maryland, according to Metropolitan Police Department officials. The same gunman attempted another carjacking around 7 p.m. on the same night and later shot a man before stealing his car, a 2016 Chrysler 200, resulting in the victim’s death at a nearby hospital.
The stolen Chrysler 200 was recovered in a local park in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and the suspect reportedly abandoned it before carjacking a Toyota Camry. After further incidents, the alleged carjacker was eventually arrested by police in the nation’s capital.
The suspect’s actions escalated, including firing shots at a Maryland State Police trooper and opening fire on a D.C. police officer’s vehicle. However, no injuries were reported in these incidents. The suspect was shot and killed by New Carrollton police officers in Prince George’s County after state and local authorities collaborated to locate him.
As of now, the suspect remains unidentified, and both the Metropolitan Police Department and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission have not responded immediately to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
