Israeli undercover commandos, posing as women and medical personnel, conducted a covert operation at the Ibn Sina hospital in Jenin on Tuesday. The mission resulted in the killing of three gunmen, including a Hamas member planning an attack similar to the October 7 incident.
The ongoing territorial dispute between Israel and Palestinians escalated after the October 7 attack, leading to a conflict in which more than 1,200 people were killed, according to the Associated Press.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on Hamas, initiating airstrikes and a ground offensive in Gaza, resulting in over 26,000 Palestinian casualties, predominantly women and minors, as reported by the Health Ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza.
A recent undercover raid in the West Bank hospital involved around a dozen troops, some disguised as women and medical staff, as depicted in circulated CCTV footage. Palestinian news agency Quds identified the three killed as Mohammad Jalamneh, and the brothers Basil and Mohammad al-Ghazawi.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad claimed the victims, while Israel accused these groups of using hospitals as shields. The Israeli military defended the raid, citing it as an example of terrorist organizations exploiting civilian areas and hospitals as shelters and human shields.
This incident echoes a similar 2015 hospital raid where undercover Israeli units disguised themselves as Palestinians to apprehend a stabbing suspect and confront a Hamas operative.
