In the late hours of Monday night, a tragic incident unfolded near the Tennessee state line in north-central Alabama, where a Greyhound bus collided with a compact SUV, resulting in at least one fatality and multiple injuries.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reported the demise of the 23-year-old SUV driver, Sidney Benson of Ardmore, Alabama, near the crash site, which occurred around 10:13 p.m.
The cause of the crash remains unknown at this early stage of the investigation. Following the collision, the Greyhound bus veered off the road and overturned. The bus carried a 63-year-old driver and eight passengers, ranging in age from 23 to 63.
Tragically, Sidney Benson, who was not utilizing his seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The bus driver and all passengers were transported to various hospitals, according to Greyhound’s statement to CBS News. By Tuesday morning, six passengers had received medical treatment and were released, as reported by the company.

Don Webster, spokesperson for Huntsville Emergency Medical Services Inc., informed CBS Huntsville affiliate WHNT-TV that one individual was in critical condition and transported to a hospital.
Multiple agencies, including Limestone County Coroner Mike West and the sheriff’s office from neighboring Madison County, were present at the crash site to address the aftermath of the incident.
