Rep. Victoria Spartz is reconsidering her retirement plans, adding a layer of uncertainty to the political landscape in Indiana. The Indiana Republican had previously announced her decision to leave Congress last year, but now she appears to be wavering.
In response to inquiries about her decision, Spartz conveyed in a text message to POLITICO on Thursday that she will likely make a definitive choice over the weekend.
Her hesitancy aligns with her history of unpredictability during her tenure in D.C. While Spartz refrains from committing to a specific course of action, insiders within Indiana’s Republican circles increasingly anticipate that she will file for reelection in the coming days.

Three Indiana Republicans, granted anonymity to speak openly, have noted observations of her recent political activities, pointing to signs that suggest she is gearing up for another electoral campaign.
One of these Republicans, an elected GOP official in the state, commented on Spartz’s recent actions, stating, “She’s hiring more staff.
Again, not something you would do if you’re done in December. You wouldn’t be like adding so many more town halls just at the filing deadline if you were done in December. You wouldn’t be doing franking mail if you’re done in December. So she’s running again.”
When questioned about her potential reversal, Spartz disclosed that she is under significant pressure to seek reelection and acknowledged the need to make a decision promptly.
If Spartz indeed chooses to run again, it would disrupt the plans of several other candidates vying to succeed her.
Spartz had initially declared her intention to retire a year ago, citing family reasons related to “two high school girls back home.” During that period, she briefly contemplated a potential Senate bid as a replacement for Sen. Mike Braun, who is currently pursuing the governorship.
The uncertainty surrounding Spartz’s decision has left Indiana Republicans perplexed. According to a source familiar with the matter, she had informed at least one potential successor in recent weeks that she had no intentions of running.
