The United States military initiated airstrikes on Friday in response to the recent attack that resulted in the deaths of three U.S. soldiers.

This development is expected to be a central topic on upcoming Sunday talk shows. Simultaneously, Congress remains entangled in a contentious debate over the southern border bill, adding to the escalating tensions during ongoing negotiations.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the commencement of airstrikes around 4 p.m. EST in Iraq and Syria on Friday. These strikes were a response to the actions of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force and their associated militia groups.

The military intervention followed an attack by Iran the previous Sunday, which claimed the lives of three U.S. service members and left over two dozen injured.

House Intelligence Committee Chair, Representative Mike Turner (R-Ohio), is scheduled to appear on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” where he is likely to provide insights into the airstrikes and their potential repercussions in the Middle East.

Turner previously expressed condolences for the soldiers’ deaths and urged the Biden administration to take decisive action in response.

Representative Jim Himes (D-Conn.), the ranking Democrat on the committee, will also participate in CBS’s “Face the Nation.” His perspective is anticipated to be more supportive of the Biden administration’s decision to deliberate before responding to the attack.

The battle over the southern border bill continues into February, with months of negotiations at stake. The text of the bill, backed by President Biden, is expected to be revealed this weekend.

However, it faces resistance from House Republicans, with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) declaring the deal as “dead on arrival” in the House.

Speaker Johnson, appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, is likely to discuss both the border bill and the U.S. airstrikes.

He criticized the Biden administration for what he perceived as a slow response to the attack and voiced concerns during his initial floor speech about President Biden’s management of the U.S.-Mexico border.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will join ABC’s “This Week,” where he is expected to outline strategies to advance the bill in the House, even if faced with resistance from Johnson and other Republicans.

Former President Trump, considered the GOP front-runner, has actively urged Republicans in both chambers to oppose the bill, denying Biden a legislative victory ahead of the 2024 election.

Scheduled to appear on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Trump is likely to discuss the upcoming election, his opposition to the border bill, and his activities in Nevada for the caucus.
