In the latest national NBC News poll, it has been revealed that three-quarters of voters, with even half of Democrats among them, express reservations about President Joe Biden’s mental and physical health.
This stands in contrast to 61% of voters who harbor concerns about the multiple felony charges faced by former President Donald Trump, with fewer than half expressing concerns about his mental and physical well-being.
The sentiments expressed in the poll appear consistent with those observed in September when the NBC News poll initially probed into these concerns.
At that time, a larger number of voters voiced concerns about Biden’s age, now at 81, compared to those expressing apprehensions about Trump’s legal challenges. The former president is 77 years old.
When specifically asked about Trump’s mental and physical fitness for a second term, 48% indicated having concerns.
Despite an additional four months of heightened attention to Trump’s legal issues, these numbers have remained largely unaltered, with the focus now shifting more towards concerns about President Biden’s mental and physical health, as noted by Republican pollster Bill McInturff, who conducted the survey in collaboration with Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt.
In the recent poll, a combined 76% of voters express major concerns (62%) or moderate concerns (14%) about Biden’s perceived lack of necessary mental and physical health for a second term.
In contrast, 24% report either minor concerns (13%) or no concerns at all (11%). When analyzed by party affiliation, 95% of Republican voters, 81% of independents, and 54% of Democrats voice major or moderate concerns about Biden’s fitness for a second term.
Comparatively, 61% of all voters report major concerns (51%) or moderate concerns (10%) about Trump facing multiple criminal and civil trials over allegations of wrongdoing, including felony charges related to attempting to overturn the 2020 election.
Meanwhile, 39% express either minor concerns (11%) or no concerns at all (28%). Broken down by party, 95% of Democrats, 65% of independents, and 27% of Republicans express major or moderate concerns about Trump’s felony charges and legal challenges.
Addressing the concerns raised by voters, Democratic pollster Horwitt suggests that because more Democrats have reservations about Biden’s age than Republicans have concerns about Trump’s legal challenges, worries about Biden do not seem to be driving vote choice to the same extent as concerns about Trump.
Despite more significant concerns about Biden’s age, he is still garnering 17% support among voters with major concerns, whereas only 10% of voters with major concerns about Trump’s trials are inclined to vote for him.
Furthermore, the NBC News poll reveals that a combined 59% of voters express concerns about Biden’s possible awareness of or involvement in the business dealings of his son, Hunter Biden.
This comprehensive survey underscores the diverse range of apprehensions among voters, encompassing health, legal, and business-related concerns about both Biden and Trump.
