He shared his thoughts with the king and his family and expressed relief that the diagnosis was caught early. While Charles will postpone public engagements during his treatment, he plans to continue with much of his private work, including his regular meetings with the prime minister.
Sunak confirmed his regular contact with the king and stated that their interactions would proceed as usual, although he didn’t disclose whether face-to-face meetings were planned.
On Monday, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles, who has been on the throne for less than 15 months, was diagnosed with a “form of cancer” discovered during a procedure for a benign prostate enlargement a week ago.
While the palace clarified that it was not prostate cancer, further details about Charles’ condition were not provided. The palace’s statement mentioned that Charles had initiated a schedule of regular treatments, prompting doctors to advise him to postpone public-facing duties.
He will continue to handle state affairs and official paperwork despite undergoing treatments. Charles spent the night at his Clarence House residence in London after commencing outpatient treatments, displaying a positive outlook and eagerness to return to public duties.
Prince Harry is expected to arrive in London by midday local time to support his father after hastily catching a flight from LAX on Monday.
