In a recent poll conducted by NBC News, concerns surrounding President Biden’s age, health, and former President Trump’s legal troubles emerge as significant factors for voters ahead of a potential rematch between the two in November.
According to the survey, a substantial 76 percent of voters expressed major or moderate concerns about whether Biden, aged 81, possesses the requisite mental and physical health to serve a second presidential term.
Another 13 percent indicated minor concerns, while 11 percent reported no real worries on this front. Notably, the apprehensions about Biden’s age and health spanned across party lines, with 95 percent of Republicans, 81 percent of independents, and 54 percent of Democrats expressing varying levels of concern.
Comparatively, when respondents were asked about the 77-year-old Trump’s fitness for office, 48 percent cited major or moderate concerns, with 17 percent indicating minor concerns and 35 percent reporting no significant worries.
While Biden’s age raised more concerns than Trump’s among voters, the survey also highlighted widespread apprehension regarding the four ongoing criminal cases faced by the former president.
A majority, 51 percent, expressed major concerns about Trump’s legal battles, while 10 percent reported moderate concerns, 11 percent minor concerns, and 28 percent indicated no concerns at all. The concern over Trump’s legal issues cut across party lines, with 95 percent of Democrats, 65 percent of independents, and 27 percent of Republicans expressing varying degrees of worry.
The poll delved into concerns surrounding claims alleging Biden’s involvement in business dealings related to his son, Hunter.
With ongoing investigations by Republican lawmakers into the Biden family’s business activities, nearly 60 percent of respondents expressed major or moderate concerns about these claims, while 14 percent reported minor concerns and 26 percent had no significant worries.
Conducted among 1,000 registered voters from January 26 to January 30, the poll carries a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
