Prince Harry is currently en route to California after a swift transatlantic journey to London for an urgent visit to his father, King Charles III, who recently received a surprising cancer diagnosis.
The Duke of Sussex arrived at Heathrow Airport this afternoon, a mere 24 hours after he was chauffeured from the same airport to Clarence House under police escort. This marks a swift and unexpected trip for Harry, who had flown in from Los Angeles on a ten-hour flight.
Upon his arrival yesterday, he reached the royal residence at 2:42 pm, where he spent approximately 45 minutes with his father, King Charles III. Their meeting was described as “brief.” Subsequently, the King and Camilla were driven to Buckingham Palace, from where a helicopter awaited to transport them back to Sandringham in Norfolk.
Notably, Prince Harry did not have an opportunity to see his brother, Prince William, or sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, who is currently recuperating from abdominal surgery and on an extended leave.
The urgency of Harry’s visit was prompted by his father sharing the distressing news of his cancer diagnosis, leading to a swift transatlantic journey of over 5,000 miles from Los Angeles to London. This visit marked their first formal in-person meeting since the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022.
While Prince Harry did attend Charles’s coronation at Westminster Abbey in May of the previous year, there were no observable interactions between the newly-crowned King and Queen and the Duke at that time.
The circumstances surrounding this unexpected trip underscore the gravity of the situation and the significance of family connections during challenging times.
