In today’s electoral showdown, contenders vie for the coveted seat, namely Tom Suozzi (D), former governor of Santos, who previously lost the 2022 gubernatorial bid in the Democratic primary to Kathy Hochul, and Nassau County legislator Mazi Melesa Pilip (R).
Pilip’s nomination to run for the seat highlighted her impressive background: an Orthodox Jewish, Ethiopian-Israeli mother of seven, and a former IDF paratrooper.
Recent polling indicates Suozzi holds a four-point lead, making turnout a pivotal factor in this race. However, a significant obstacle looms as New York grapples with a snowstorm, potentially dampening election-day participation.
So far turnout in NY-03 is very low —“nothing” is the exact quote— Queens turnout is a quarter of 2022 by 10 am and Nassau even lower, I’m told.
Still snowing on LI but should be better later so it could change but it’s looking like an old fashioned snow day, schools all out ❄️

Amidst these challenges, there’s a crucial lesson for Republicans: the importance of early voting. As political commentator Ryan James Girdusky aptly notes, the delayed approach favored by many Republicans could result in electoral losses, particularly if adverse weather conditions impede turnout.
Polls are set to close at 9:00 pm Eastern on Tuesday, with results anticipated shortly thereafter. Stay tuned to RedState for live updates, and engage with fellow readers in the comments section below. Remember, every vote counts.
