Jimmy Kimmel isn’t holding back his criticism of Donald Trump’s attempts to evade accountability for the events of January 6th by asserting that U.S. Presidents are above the law. During the latest episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Tuesday, Kimmel offered up a humorous analogy for Trump’s defense, dubbing it “the crime version” of Olive Garden’s “Never Ending Pasta Pass.”
“Donald Trump is pulling out all the stops to delay the trial stemming from the chaos he caused on January 6th until after the election. Last week, the DC court of appeals unanimously rejected his claim of immunity to do whatever he wants, and now he’s turning to the Supreme Court to overturn it,” Kimmel remarked, addressing the situation.
“Essentially, what Trump is seeking is akin to Olive Garden’s ‘Never-Ending Pasta Pass’ but for crimes,” Kimmel continued. “His legal team argues that future presidents might hesitate to take action if they fear criminal repercussions.”
“And you know what? They might be onto something. What kind of precedent are we setting if potential future presidents have to think twice before inciting a mob of enraged, misguided individuals to storm into Congress and assault law enforcement officers?” Kimmel added, alluding to the violence instigated by Trump supporters on January 6, 2021.
Following that, Kimmel couldn’t resist poking fun at Trump’s efforts to install his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, as co-chair of the Republican National Committee.
“Donald Trump is now meddling in the affairs of the Republican National Committee as well. He’s thrown his support behind Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law, for the role of RNC co-chair,” Kimmel quipped. “Hey, if his son-in-law could supposedly solve the Middle East, why not let his daughter-in-law take a stab at fixing the Republican Party?”
Kimmel then shared Trump’s endorsement of Lara: “My very talented daughter-in-law, Lara, has agreed to run as the RNC Co-Chair. Lara is an extremely talented communicator and is dedicated to all that MAGA stands for. She has told me she wants to accept this challenge and would be GREAT!”
“Ouch, poor Eric. His wife received more praise in that single statement than his father has ever given him in his entire life,” Kimmel joked.
