Former President Donald Trump is strengthening his influence over the Republican National Committee (RNC) by endorsing a trio of leaders expected to take key positions. Lara Trump, the former president’s daughter-in-law, and Chris LaCivita, a senior campaign adviser, are set to assume top leadership roles in the party.
Lara Trump is slated to run for election as RNC co-chair, while LaCivita will become chief operating officer, serving as a liaison between the RNC and the Trump campaign.
This move comes as part of Trump’s initiative to unify the RNC and his campaign, aiming to create a more cohesive and effective strategy for the upcoming general election. Michael Whaley has been selected as the new RNC chairman, replacing Ronna McDaniel.

LaCivita, a seasoned Republican operative and former U.S. Marine, brings extensive experience in political campaigns, including working on Sen. Rand Paul’s 2016 presidential run and serving as a senior strategist at the pro-Trump super PAC Make America Great Again Inc.
He is expected to focus on improving RNC spending and fundraising, areas that have faced challenges in recent years. The RNC reported its lowest cash on hand since 2014, and LaCivita’s role will include efforts to enhance unity within the party, addressing internal divisions that existed under McDaniel’s leadership.
One of LaCivita’s key goals is unifying different factions within the party, including those who may have been at odds with the outgoing chair, Ronna McDaniel.
Additionally, the Trump-backed leaders are looking into potential changes in the RNC’s early voting initiative, known as “Bank Your Vote,” launched in 2023.
This initiative aims to boost mail and early in-person voting, aligning with traditional Democratic voting strategies. Republicans are evaluating its effectiveness and considering adjustments to reach new voters.
Trump’s influence over the RNC is part of a broader effort to shape the party’s direction and strategy leading up to the 2024 general election.
