AT&T has announced that it will be offering affected customers a $5 credit each as compensation for the recent cellphone network outage that disrupted service for many customers. The Dallas-based company stated that the credit will be applied to customers’ accounts within two billing cycles.

It’s important to note that this credit will not apply to AT&T Business, prepaid service, or Cricket, its low-cost wireless service. However, AT&T stated that prepaid customers impacted by the outage will have alternative options available to them, though specifics were not provided.

The outage, which occurred last week, caused significant disruptions for thousands of AT&T users across the United States. The service interruption began early Thursday and lasted for several hours before service was fully restored.

AT&T has attributed the outage to an error in coding, although further details regarding the nature of the error were not provided. Importantly, AT&T has clarified that the outage was not the result of a cyberattack.

The $5 credit is part of AT&T’s efforts to address the inconvenience caused by the outage and to compensate affected customers. While the credit may not fully cover the impact of the service disruption, it is intended to acknowledge the inconvenience and provide some form of compensation for those affected.

AT&T has also stated that it is committed to continuously improving its network infrastructure to prevent similar incidents in the future. The company has invested heavily in its network to ensure reliability and to minimize the likelihood of service disruptions.

Additionally, AT&T has encouraged customers to reach out to customer service if they have any further questions or concerns regarding the outage or the compensation being offered.
