Ronna McDaniel, the current chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), has announced her resignation, according to several reports.
McDaniel took on the role in 2017 with the backing of former President Donald Trump. However, her leadership has faced criticism due to a series of electoral defeats for the Republican Party.
McDaniel stated on Monday that she would step down on March 8, coinciding with the RNC’s Spring Training in Houston. In her statement, McDaniel mentioned her decision to step aside to allow the party’s nominee to select a chair of their choice, citing a tradition of change within the RNC following the selection of a presidential nominee.

She had previously hinted at her departure, indicating on February 6 that she would leave her position at a later date. During her tenure, McDaniel spearheaded the “Bank Your Vote” program, which aimed to encourage early voting among Republican voters.
She also led efforts to pursue legal action and ensure election integrity, particularly in response to concerns about election laws in states controlled by Democrats.
Trump endorsed Michael Whatley, the chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, as McDaniel’s successor, and his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, as co-chair.
Lara Trump expressed her commitment to continuing early voting initiatives and maintaining election integrity in her role as co-chair during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).
