British Barrister Steven Barrett has expressed serious concerns about the potential repercussions for the UK judiciary system following an investigation into a judge accused of bias.

Senior deputy district judge Tan Ikram is currently under scrutiny after allowing three women convicted of terrorism offences to walk free last month, a decision that has sparked controversy and raised questions about judicial impartiality.

In a recent interview with GB News, Barrett highlighted the significance of this case and its implications for the judiciary’s integrity.

Drawing parallels with a similar case involving Romanian judge Vasilică-Cristi Danileţ Assist, Barrett warned that if similar issues arose in the UK, it could lead to the European Court of Human Rights undermining the UK judiciary.

He stressed the importance of adhering to the Constitution and appointing non-political judges to maintain the judiciary’s independence and credibility.

The barrister emphasized the necessity of thoroughly investigating incidents involving judges to protect the judiciary’s reputation and the public’s trust in the justice system.

Barrett argued that judges should not openly express political views, as this could erode public confidence in the judiciary’s impartiality and fairness.

He underscored the importance of transparency and accountability within the judiciary to uphold the principles of justice and maintain public confidence in the legal system.

The case involving Judge Ikram has reignited discussions about the judiciary’s role and responsibilities, particularly regarding handling sensitive and high-profile cases.

Allowing individuals convicted of serious offenses to walk free has raised eyebrows and sparked debate about the judiciary’s decision-making process.

Barrett’s comments come when public scrutiny of the judiciary is increasing, with calls for greater transparency and accountability.

The judiciary plays a crucial role in upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is administered fairly and impartially. Any perception of bias or political influence could undermine public trust in the judiciary and the legal system.

As the investigation into Judge Ikram continues, the judiciary must take steps to address any concerns about bias or impartiality. The judiciary’s integrity is paramount, and steps must be taken to ensure that judges are held to the highest standards of conduct and accountability.

Barrett’s remarks highlight the importance of maintaining the independence and integrity of the judiciary and the need for transparency and accountability in the legal system.

Only by upholding these principles can the judiciary continue to serve as a cornerstone of democracy and ensure that justice is delivered fairly and impartially.
