Former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has announced the end of her presidential bid, clearing the path for Donald Trump to run as the Republican Party’s nominee. Haley’s decision comes after Trump’s strong performance in the Super Tuesday primaries, winning several key states.
Haley congratulated Trump on his likely nomination: “In all likelihood, Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee when our party convention meets in July.
I congratulate him and wish him well.” She also expressed gratitude to the women and girls who supported her campaign, urging them to remain strong and courageous.
Despite winning primaries in the District of Columbia and Vermont, Haley faced tough competition from Trump, who dominated Super Tuesday with victories in states like California, Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, North Carolina, and Texas.
Trump took to social media to highlight Haley’s losses, stating, “Nikki Haley got TROUNCED last night, in record-setting fashion. I hope she stays in the ‘race’ and fights it out until the end!”
Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden called on Haley’s supporters to endorse their campaigns. Biden praised Haley for speaking out against Trump’s actions, particularly his relationship with Vladimir Putin. He emphasized preserving American democracy and standing up to America’s adversaries.
Polls currently show Trump with a slight lead over Biden, indicating a potentially close race in the 2024 presidential election. Despite her pledge to continue fighting against Trump, Haley ultimately ended her campaign, acknowledging Trump’s strong position within the Republican Party.
The Republican Party will hold its convention in July, where Trump is expected to become the party’s nominee officially. The Democratic Party will follow with its convention in August, setting the stage for a showdown between Trump and Biden in November.
