A 35-year-old man found himself in even deeper trouble with the law after a disturbing series of events in Bangor. The incident unfolded on Main Street when the PSNI responded to a report of a sexual assault in a shop.
Upon arrival, officers encountered an individual matching the reported description, who displayed signs of intoxication and became verbally abusive toward store staff.
The man, already known to local law enforcement for breaching bail conditions, was promptly arrested on charges of sexual assault and breach of bail. However, the situation took a dangerous turn when the suspect, requiring medical attention for an injury sustained, lashed out at the officers attending to him at the hospital.

In a shocking turn of events, the individual assaulted two officers, kicking one and head-butting another. These brazen attacks resulted in his further arrest on charges of assaulting police officers, compounding his already serious legal predicament. As of now, he remains in police custody pending further investigation.
Chief Inspector McGrattan underscored the gravity of the incident, emphasizing that assaults on police officers are unequivocally unacceptable and will be met with swift and decisive action.
He clarified that such assaults will not be dismissed as merely occupational hazards, and those responsible will face the full consequences of their reprehensible behavior in court.
Fortunately, the assaulted officers did not sustain serious injuries requiring hospitalization and were able to continue their duties.
However, McGrattan stressed the urgency of ending these attacks on law enforcement personnel, emphasizing that such violence has no place in society and must be condemned unequivocally.
