President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign reported a significant fundraising boost, with $10 million raised in the 24 hours following his State of the Union address.
In his speech, Biden strongly criticized his Republican opponent, Donald Trump, accusing him of undermining democracy and obstructing efforts to address immigration issues in the United States.
During the 68-minute address to Congress, Biden also condemned Trump for downplaying the truth about the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol and for his friendly stance towards Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The fundraising achievement is noteworthy, considering that in January, the Biden campaign and Democratic Party allies collectively raised just over $42 million. This surge in donations indicates a strong response from supporters following the State of the Union speech.
Nielsen ratings from 14 television networks indicate that an estimated 32.2 million viewers tuned in to watch Biden’s speech, marking an 18% increase from the previous year. This figure does not include viewers who watched the address via streaming services, social media, and other platforms.
Capitalizing on this momentum, the Biden campaign announced a $30 million advertising campaign targeting key battleground states over the next six weeks. This move underscores the campaign’s financial advantage over Trump’s re-election efforts.
Despite Biden’s fundraising success and strong viewership for his address, recent polls suggest a tight race between him and Trump. A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted in February showed Trump with the support of 37% of respondents, compared to Biden’s 34%.
