A 21-year-old illegal alien, Miguel Angel Vega Sedano, was arrested and charged with child kidnapping and possession of forged documents after the mother of a 13-year-old Utah girl discovered concerning messages exchanged between Sedano and her daughter on social media.
The mother alerted Granite School District Police, who found Sedano waiting for the girl in a vehicle on school property. Police also found a fraudulent Social Security card and false permanent residency card on Sedano.
The Granite School District confirmed that the suspect was detained as he entered the campus after school had ended. West Valley City Police responded and took Sedano into custody.
Fortunately, the student was unharmed, and the district emphasized the dangers of social media, noting that almost 60% of teenage girls report being contacted by strangers on social media in ways that make them uncomfortable.
Sedano admitted to police that he had communicated with the 13-year-old girl and had traveled to the school to pick her up and take her home. He also admitted to communicating with another 13-year-old girl whom he had met in person three times.
Sedano indicated that he neither knew the girls’ parents nor had their permission to pick them up. He also admitted to obtaining his false documents from a family member in Arizona.
Sedano was booked into Salt Lake County Jail, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement filed a detainer request against him. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations made 170,590 administrative arrests in fiscal year 2023, with 43% of those arrested having previous criminal convictions or pending charges.
Among the 73,822 illegal aliens with criminal histories picked up by ICE, there were nearly 300,000 charges and convictions, including for homicide, kidnapping, rape, assault, robbery, and burglary.
