Supporters of former President Trump in Wisconsin have submitted nearly 11,000 signatures in an attempt to recall Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R).
The group seeking to recall Vos submitted 10,700 signatures to the Wisconsin Elections Commission, surpassing the threshold of 6,850 signatures needed. However, the commission must still certify the names before the recall effort can proceed.
The Trump supporters aim to remove Vos from his position, which he has held since 2013, citing his failure to overturn the results of the 2020 election and his refusal to impeach Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator Megan Wolfe over her handling of the election.
Vos has expressed a desire to replace Wolfe as the state’s top elections official but has not endorsed impeaching her.
President Biden narrowly won Wisconsin over Trump in the 2020 election. Republican officials in swing states like Wisconsin faced pressure from Trump allies to challenge the election results.
Vos previously survived a primary challenge from a Trump-backed candidate, Adam Steen, who shared similar grievances regarding the election results.
The uncertainty surrounding the state’s new legislative map, which may not be enforced before the fall elections, has complicated the Vos recall effort. The signatures must come from within Vos’s district, but it is unclear whether organizers should target his old or new district.
