Former President Trump has thrown his weight behind former Rep. Mike Rogers in the Michigan Senate race, endorsing him and giving him a significant boost in the primary.
Rogers, a widely favored candidate, is aiming to emerge from a crowded field that includes former lawmakers who have been critical of Trump. In his endorsement, Trump praised Rogers’ service to the country, highlighting his career in the Army and Congress.
He expressed confidence that Rogers would support his “America First Policies,” emphasizing key issues like border security, economic growth, military and veteran support, and Second Amendment rights.
Rogers’ candidacy has garnered support from top Senate Republicans and the National Republican Senatorial Committee. Sen. Steve Daines, the committee’s chairman, has worked closely with Trump to navigate primary races and endorsed Rogers.
National Republicans have long seen Rogers as a strong candidate for the Senate, dating back to his retirement from the House a decade ago.
A recent survey showed Rogers leading former Rep. Peter Meijer by a significant margin, with Meijer’s vote to impeach Trump in 2021 likely hurting his viability in the race.
Another candidate, former Rep. Justin Amash, who left the Republican Party to become an independent, has also announced his GOP bid for the seat, adding another dimension to the primary contest.
Trump’s endorsement of Rogers adds momentum to his campaign and solidifies his position as a frontrunner in the Michigan Senate race.
