During a meeting between Polish President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and US President Joe Biden, the leaders discussed various issues, including supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression and strengthening NATO.
President Duda highlighted the need to resist Russian imperialism and stop its aggression. He emphasized the importance of providing support to Ukraine and stopping Russian aggression.
Prime Minister Tusk elaborated on discussions regarding the assistance to Ukraine from allies, including the unblocking of American aid and mobilizing the EU in this matter.
He stressed the importance of unblocking the next aid package for Ukraine, which is currently stuck in Congress. President Duda also mentioned Poland’s initiative to increase NATO countries’ defense spending to 3% of GDP.
This initiative aims not only to increase spending on weapons but also to revive the defense industry in Europe and ensure the ability to produce enough ammunition quickly to protect countries and provide assistance to those potentially under attack.
Prime Minister Tusk highlighted a great “unity of views” with President Biden on almost all points discussed during the meeting. President Biden, at the beginning of the meeting, emphasized that the US$300 million aid package for Ukraine was insufficient, indicating a strong commitment to supporting Ukraine.
The White House emphasized the visit’s significance, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Poland’s accession to NATO, highlighting the joint commitment of the United States and Poland to the Alliance. The meeting underscored the importance of supporting Ukraine and strengthening NATO’s capabilities to counter Russian aggression.
