During St. Patrick’s Day weekend, as Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Northern Ireland leaders Michelle O’Neill and Emma Little-Pengelly visit the White House, Amnesty International activists from Ireland and the United States are gathering to urge President Biden to push for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.

As part of this initiative, Amnesty International has organized three linked vigils outside key diplomatic locations: the US Consulate General in Belfast, the American Embassy in Dublin, and the White House in Washington DC.

The joint plea to President Biden emphasizes the importance of his Irish heritage and implores him to advocate for an immediate and sustained ceasefire in Gaza. Additionally, Amnesty International is calling for the release of all remaining civilian hostages and for Israel to lift its blockade of Gaza.

Patrick Corrigan, Director of Amnesty International Northern Ireland, highlights widespread support across Ireland for President Biden to take action toward securing a permanent ceasefire.

Stephen Bowen, Executive Director of Amnesty International Ireland, emphasizes the urgent need for President Biden to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and facilitate the safe return of hostages to help ease tensions in the region.
