In the week following Michael Whatley and Lara Trump assuming control of the Republican National Committee (RNC), significant efforts have been underway to reshape the organization in the image of Donald Trump.
Central to this transformation is a renewed emphasis on “election integrity,” a top priority for the expected GOP nominee, who continues to propagate falsehoods about the 2020 election as he prepares for a potential 2024 rematch against President Joe Biden.
To lead this initiative, the RNC has enlisted Christina Bobb, a former reporter at One America News Network who transitioned into a role as a Trump attorney and promoted baseless claims of election fraud during the previous presidential cycle.
Lara Trump announced the establishment of a new “election integrity division” within the RNC, emphasizing a substantial allocation of resources to address concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.
She stressed the importance of restoring confidence in the voting system, asserting that failure to do so jeopardizes the nation’s democratic principles.
In a memo circulated to RNC members, Whatley outlined the expansion of the party’s election integrity program, which includes initiatives such as early voting, legal “ballot harvesting,” and absentee and mail-in ballot programs.
He also clarified that previous programs, such as Ronna McDaniel’s “Bank Your Vote,” remain active, while introducing new endeavors like “Grow the Vote” to engage nontraditional GOP voters.
Highlighting the urgency of the endeavor, Whatley underscored the need to develop the most robust election integrity program ever seen to safeguard the electoral process. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of voter turnout and early voting to secure electoral victories.
As part of the organizational restructuring, key legal figures have been appointed to lead these efforts. Christina Bobb will serve as senior counsel for election integrity, leveraging her experience in Trump’s legal battles surrounding the 2020 election.
Meanwhile, Charlie Spies, a seasoned GOP lawyer, will assume the role of chief counsel at the RNC, bringing his expertise in election law and campaign strategy to the forefront of the organization’s initiatives.
