A shooting incident occurred in Washington, D.C. early Sunday, resulting in two fatalities and five injuries, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Police Department.
The incident unfolded around 3 a.m. in the vicinity of 7th Street and P Street Northwest, near the Kennedy Recreation Center in downtown D.C., as per Executive Assistant Chief Jeffrey Carroll’s statement during a news briefing.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered two men with gunshot wounds, both of whom succumbed to their injuries on-site. Additionally, four other individuals, all adults, were found wounded from gunshots and were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, Carroll elaborated.
Subsequently, another victim independently sought medical assistance at a local hospital for a gunshot wound related to the same incident.
While details regarding the shooting were initially limited, authorities described the suspect as a Black male with an average build, dressed in a blue shirt and light-colored pants. The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot southward along 7th Street, as reported by the police.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, although preliminary assessments indicate that one or more assailants deliberately targeted the victims, the police disclosed.
In response to the incident, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $50,000 to individuals who provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting.
