Despite whispers of rebellious MPs plotting to oust him from No.10, Cabinet Minister Mark Harper insists that Rishi Sunak will lead the Tories into the next general election.
In an interview with Sky News’s Trevor Phillips, Harper emphasized that “politics is a team game” and urged MPs to “have some confidence” amidst a challenging week for the party.
He fully supported Sunak, asserting that the Chancellor will clearly outline the government’s plan and lead them into the election.

Addressing concerns about the Tories trailing behind Labour in national polls and facing potential electoral losses, Harper remained resolute, affirming confidence in Sunak’s leadership.
Despite reports suggesting discussions among right-wing Tory MPs about backing Commons leader Penny Mordaunt in the event of a no-confidence vote against the Prime Minister, a source close to Mordaunt dismissed such claims as “nonsense.”
Dame Andrea Jenkyns, a former Tory minister who has advocated for a leadership change before the election, denied any organized effort among right-wing MPs to rally behind Mordaunt.

Harper urged his colleagues to focus on doing what they believe is best for the country, echoing the Prime Minister’s approach of making decisions based on what he deems sensible.
Responding to speculation about a potential snap general election in May, Harper dismissed such notions as “nonsense,” reiterating the Prime Minister’s earlier statement that the working assumption was for the election to be held at the end of the year.
