Ohio GOP Senate candidate Bernie Moreno has emerged victorious in his party’s primary, as confirmed by The Associated Press.
The former car dealership owner triumphed over his primary challengers in a closely contested three-way race, serving as a litmus test for the influence of former President Donald Trump among Ohio GOP voters.
Addressing his supporters on Tuesday evening, Moreno expressed gratitude towards Trump for his endorsement and displayed confidence in his campaign’s prospects.
“We’re going to retake the United States Senate. We’re going to have President Trump in the White House. We’re gonna get the America first agenda done,” Moreno declared.
He pledged to prioritize policies advocated by Trump during his tenure, such as securing U.S. borders, restoring “law and order,” and reducing foreign energy dependence if elected.
In the days leading up to the primary, Trump rallied for Moreno in Ohio, endorsing him as an “America first champion” and highlighting his status as a “political outsider who has spent his entire life building up Ohio communities.”
However, Moreno’s Democratic opponent, Sen. Sherrod Brown, wasted no time in responding to Moreno’s victory. Taking to social media on Tuesday night, Brown asserted, “The choice ahead of Ohio is clear: Bernie Moreno has spent his career and campaign putting himself first, and would do the same if elected.”
