Rishi Sunak’s four-month-old nephew has become a multimillionaire after receiving £22 million worth of shares in Infosys. Ekagrah Rohan Murthy acquired a 0.04 percent stake in the IT firm on Friday, becoming its youngest shareholder at such a tender age.
Infosys, which experienced a 50 percent surge in UK public sector invoices in 2023, was co-founded by the prime minister’s father-in-law, NR Narayana Murthy. Rohan Murthy, Sunak’s wife’s brother, and his wife Aparna Krishnan welcomed their baby boy in November last year.
According to a stock exchange filing, the infant inherited instant wealth by transferring 1.5 million company shares in an off-market transaction. Following the transfer, Narayana Murthy’s stake in the software service provider firm decreased from 0.4 percent to 0.36 percent, amounting to 15.1 million shares, as reported by The Economic Times.
Infosys, in which Sunak’s wife Akshata Murty also holds shares, recorded £7 million in public sector invoices last year, up from £4.7 million in 2022. Procurement data analyzed by data provider Tussell reveals that the firm received over a quarter of a million pounds from the Government Property Agency (GPA) and a similar amount from the Care Quality Commission.
Infosys also secured contracts for various services, including “Information Communication Technology” (£1.5 million), “Consultant fees” (£1.1 million), and “IT Consultancy” (£868,000) across different government levels.
The India-based company has recently secured positions on several frameworks, providing a potential advantage in winning future contracts. However, this doesn’t guarantee work, according to Tussell.
