The CIA has reportedly obstructed federal investigators from conducting interviews with a significant witness in their tax fraud inquiry into Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden. This revelation comes from a whistleblower who has brought forth startling allegations to House lawmakers scrutinizing the president’s potential involvement in his son’s business affairs.
The individual in question, Patrick Kevin Morris, a prominent Hollywood attorney and close associate of Hunter Biden, extended a loan of nearly $7 million to the president’s son, aiding him in settling outstanding taxes and covering various expenses, including housing.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) had expressed interest in interviewing Morris in August 2021 as part of its investigation into Hunter Biden’s delinquent taxes. However, the CIA intervened, reportedly preventing the interview from taking place, as disclosed by lawmakers on Wednesday.
According to House representatives, two Justice Department officials involved in the investigation were summoned to the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, prior to their planned interview with Morris. During this meeting, it was allegedly conveyed that Morris could not participate as a witness in the investigation.
House Judiciary and Oversight and Accountability committees’ ranking Republicans, Jim Jordan and James Comer, expressed uncertainty regarding the CIA’s intervention but noted its consistency with other Biden administration efforts to impede the inquiry into the president’s son, as revealed by two IRS whistleblowers.
President Biden has consistently denied any involvement in his family’s business dealings or any impropriety linked to his son. Nevertheless, Jordan and Comer have given CIA Director William J. Burns until April 4 to furnish documents pertaining to the Hunter Biden investigation, along with those related to Morris, including efforts to interview him as part of the probe.
A spokeswoman for the CIA declined to comment on the specifics of the investigation but asserted the agency’s cooperation with law enforcement partners and its commitment to not obstructing investigations. She added that the CIA regularly collaborates with oversight committees and will continue to do so.
Hunter Biden faces charges of tax fraud and filing false tax returns, alleging he failed to pay a minimum of $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019 and evaded taxes in 2018 by submitting erroneous returns.
Two IRS whistleblowers have accused Justice Department officials of delaying the case and impeding their pursuit of witnesses, leads, and evidence, some of which reportedly implicate President Biden in his son’s business dealings.
Morris, characterized as a close friend of Hunter Biden, provided closed-door testimony to lawmakers this year. In his deposition, he recounted instances of visiting the White House with Hunter, attending a wedding and the Fourth of July picnic, shedding light on their relationship.
