Aslef members have voted overwhelmingly, with more than 98% in favor, to initiate further industrial action following a one-day walkout in March last year over an ongoing dispute. The upcoming strike is scheduled for Monday, April 8th, and Saturday, May 4th, with expectations that it will effectively shut down the network.
Representing 96% of drivers in Britain, Aslef asserts that London Underground has failed to provide assurances that changes to members’ terms and conditions will not be enforced without agreement and that all existing contracts will be upheld. London Underground management’s perceived lack of commitment has prompted the strike.

Finn Brennan, Aslef’s organizer on London Underground, expressed dissatisfaction: “Despite a previous commitment to withdraw plans for massive changes to drivers’ working conditions, London Underground management has established a full-time team of managers preparing to impose their plans.”
He elaborated further, highlighting concerns over proposed longer shifts for drivers and removing current working agreements under the guise of “flexibility and efficiency.” Brennan emphasized the underlying implications, suggesting that such measures ultimately translate to demanding more work for less compensation.

Brennan also criticized management for failing to fulfill commitments regarding the security of drivers’ cabs, police presence on Night Tube services, and training. He emphasized members’ skepticism regarding the credibility of assurances provided by London Underground management.
In concluding remarks, Brennan asserted Aslef’s willingness to engage in dialogue but emphasized the necessity for concrete actions from management to address their concerns rather than relying on what he perceives as unfulfilled promises.
