The Fayette County Attorney’s Office has decided to drop multiple felony charges against Michael Wilson, a former Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government council member.

Wilson, aged 74, faced charges of first-degree wanton endangerment and third-degree terroristic threatening stemming from an incident in March 2023, as per court records.

Allegedly, Wilson had made threats to shoot someone before firing two shots near that individual, according to his arrest citation. However, on Tuesday, all charges against Wilson were dismissed.

Wilson’s attorney, John Paul Howard, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, describing it as a “just outcome” and the “correct resolution.” Howard explained that the alleged victim had chosen not to pursue prosecution, leading to the dismissal of charges against Wilson. Wilson has been acquitted of all accusations.

Howard further emphasized that Wilson’s behavior was uncharacteristic and that the case should have been resolved sooner. He cited Wilson’s lack of involvement with the legal system and attributed the delay in the case’s dismissal to procedural factors. Requests for comments from Fayette County Attorney John Hayme were not immediately answered.

The dismissal of charges against Michael Wilson marks the conclusion of a legal ordeal that his attorney believes should have been resolved earlier. With the alleged victim opting not to pursue the case, Wilson has been cleared of wrongdoing.
