Representative Jamaal Bowman, a New York Democrat and part of the progressive “Squad,” voiced strong criticism against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a recent MSNBC interview. Bowman labeled Netanyahu as obstructive to peace efforts and called for his removal through a new election in Israel.
Echoing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s sentiments, Bowman highlighted the urgent need for a ceasefire in the conflict with Hamas and described the situation in Gaza as a humanitarian crisis, with serious destruction and suffering.

Schumer had previously stated on the Senate floor that Netanyahu’s leadership was no longer beneficial for Israel, especially after the events of October 7, as reported by the New York Post. He argued for a new election, positioning Netanyahu as a hindrance to peace.
Adding to his critique, Bowman expressed disapproval of the Biden administration’s decision to approve additional weapon shipments to Israel without notifying Congress.
He emphasized the moral and humanitarian aspects of the conflict, pointing out the dire situation of children in Gaza and the widespread support among Americans for a permanent ceasefire.

Bowman’s political stance has been evident since his election to the House in 2020. However, his record also includes a misdemeanor guilty plea for triggering a fire alarm in the U.S. Capitol Office building during a session, for which he was fined $1,000 and placed on three months probation, as NPR reported.
His outspoken position on Israel has influenced his political standing. The Jewish Democratic Council of America recently endorsed George Latimer over Bowman in the Democratic primary for New York’s 16th Congressional District, indicating a shift in political support within his party.
