U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor has endorsed Charlie Justice as he vies for re-election to the Pinellas County Commission. Both Castor and Justice are Democrats, so the endorsement isn’t unexpected. Castor’s name carries weight in the Tampa Bay area, extending beyond party lines.

Justice acknowledged Castor’s backing and emphasized her track record of securing federal resources for local priorities. He expressed gratitude for her support, which is likely to boost his fundraising efforts as the November election approaches.

Vince Nowicki, a government watchdog known for uncovering issues in St. Petersburg, is challenging Justice. Nowicki has outraised Justice so far, but the latter’s momentum could shift with Castor’s endorsement.

In endorsing Justice, Castor praised him as a reliable and moral leader who values every community member. She highlighted their commitment to housing affordability, employment stability, sustainability, resilience, and accessible healthcare.

Justice represents District 3, covering parts of west St. Pete and Lealman, though the seat is elected countywide. The race is anticipated to be competitive, with Republicans holding a significant voter advantage in Pinellas County. Democrats lost ground in the County Commission during the 2022 cycle, and Republicans aim to solidify their majority further.

Justice narrowly retained his seat in the previous election. His campaign emphasizes his efforts in protecting beaches, preserving green space, and investing in infrastructure while prioritizing public safety. He aims to continue rejecting partisan extremism to facilitate progress in Pinellas County.

Castor’s endorsement adds to Justice’s support from St. Pete Mayor Ken Welch and former St. Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman, further solidifying his standing as he seeks re-election.
