A group of Republican legislators has proposed renaming Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in honor of Donald Trump, who served as President of the United States and is seen by some as a potential candidate for the position once more.
House Representative Guy Reschenthaler initiated the proposal on March 29, 2024, and subsequently directed it to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure for consideration.
This proposal, while facing slim odds of approval, suggests renaming the airport as “Donald J. Trump International Airport.” Representatives Chuck Fleischmann, Andy Ogles, Paul Gosar, Barry Moore, Troy Nehls, and Michael Waltz have shown their support by cosponsoring the bill.

Reschenthaler expressed his admiration for Trump’s presidency to Fox News Digital, stating, “In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump.
As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil.”

Despite the bill’s low likelihood of passing, the Guardian mentioned that it might still be brought to a vote in the House. Washington Dulles International Airport currently carries the name of John Foster Dulles, a former Secretary of State who served during President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s administration from 1953 to 1959.
President John F. Kennedy officially dedicated the airport on November 17, 1962, and saw “Washington” added to its designation in 1984 to further honor its location and importance.
