In August 2021, renowned porn star Ron Jeremy pleaded not guilty to over 30 counts of sexual assault, including 12 of rape, in Los Angeles spanning a 23-year period. Despite being incarcerated since his June 2020 arrest, Jeremy was released to a “private residence” in November 2023 due to declining health, including dementia and hearing loss. A conservatorship was filed in March 2023 when he was deemed incompetent to stand trial.
Recent documents obtained by The Blast revealed that all 34 criminal counts against Jeremy have been officially dismissed under California Penal Code 1385, which allows for charges to be dropped in the interest of justice. The dropped charges encompassed a range of offenses including rape, sexual penetration with force, and lewd acts involving minors.
Reports detailed Jeremy’s deteriorating mental state, with medical assessments indicating an irreversible neurocognitive decline. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald S. Harris noted Jeremy’s dementia, incoherence, and hearing impairment. Even his attorney, Stuart Goldfarb, reported Jeremy’s failure to recognize him during a visit in March 2022.
District Attorney Paul Thompson expressed regret in November 2023, acknowledging their inability to pursue justice due to Jeremy’s rapid mental and physical decline. This decision followed years of accusations from numerous women, spanning decades, who reported incidents of groping and rape. The charges brought against Jeremy in 2021 dated as far back as 1996, reflecting the severity and longevity of the allegations against him.
