In a fresh national poll, former President Trump is seen slightly ahead of President Biden by a single point. Released Thursday by Emerson College, the survey indicates that Trump is favored by 46 percent of voters, while Biden holds 45 percent. This close margin falls within the poll’s margin of error, effectively making the race too close to call.
When undecided voters were prompted to lean towards a candidate, Trump saw a slight increase, securing 51 percent compared to Biden’s 49 percent. Even with the inclusion of third-party candidates, Trump maintains a narrow lead, receiving 43 percent support versus Biden’s 42 percent.
Despite Trump’s edge among registered voters, Biden outpaces the former president among likely voters, capturing 51 percent compared to Trump’s 49 percent. This finding challenges the conventional wisdom that Trump’s supporters are more enthusiastic.

Among independent voters, Trump leads with 44 percent, Biden trails at 41 percent, and 14 percent undecided. Even considering third-party candidates, Trump maintains a three-point lead over Biden, while independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. climbs to 10 percent support.
Biden’s approval rating in the survey stands at 40 percent, with 51 percent expressing disapproval of his performance as president. Approximately 9 percent of respondents indicated a neutral stance toward the president.

The poll also illuminates voters’ top concerns, with the economy ranking highest at 35 percent, followed by immigration at 22 percent. Other issues of importance include threats to democracy at 13 percent, health care at 7 percent, and crime at 6 percent.
The Emerson College Polling national survey, conducted between April 2 and 3, gathered responses from 1,438 registered voters, with a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points.
