Chemours, a leading global chemical company, received two prestigious accolades from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Better Buildings, Better Plants program for its energy efficiency and environmental stewardship achievements.

This marks the second consecutive year that Chemours has been distinguished with the Better Project and Better Practice awards, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and innovative energy solutions.

The DOE’s Better Climate Challenge recognizes partners who excel in energy efficiency and decarbonization efforts. “Chemours has set a benchmark for energy efficiency and emission reduction that serves as a model for others,” noted Carolyn Snyder, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Buildings and Industry at the DOE.

The Better Practice Award lauded Chemours for its internal incentive program, which encouraged sustainable energy projects across its operations and led to a 3.5% reduction in energy intensity across 14 sites.

Chemours’ initiative at its Corpus Christi, Texas, facility earned the Better Project Award for its impressive achievement in reducing waste disposal costs by over $1 million annually.

By enhancing the efficiency of a distillation column, the site outstandingly increased recycling yields, cutting waste by 60% in one process. This method conserved resources and maintained a high production quality, with potential applications in other Chemours facilities.

Dr. Amber Wellman, Chemours’ Chief Sustainability Officer, expressed pride in the DOE’s recognition, attributing the success to the diligent work of the company’s teams in improving operational efficiency and minimizing environmental impact.

“Our commitment to sustainability is fundamental to our operations, influencing our product innovations and responsible manufacturing practices,” she stated. These accolades reinforce Chemours’ dedication to its sustainability objectives and motivate them to strive for excellence in environmental stewardship.

By participating in the DOE’s Better Plants and Better Climate Challenge, Chemours actively contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption, aligning these efforts with its 2030 Sustainability Goals.

The recognition at the 2024 Better Project, Better Practice Awards during the Better Buildings, Better Plants Summit in Washington, D.C., celebrates Chemours’ leadership in promoting sustainable industrial practices and its ongoing journey towards a more energy-efficient and environmentally responsible future.
