Former President Donald Trump made a significant announcement on his social media platform, Truth Social, just seven months before the 2024 presidential election.
He stated that decisions regarding abortion regulations should be left to individual states, emphasizing that the states’ choices through voting or legislation should be respected as the law of the land.
Trump acknowledged that different states might have varying limitations on abortion without a federal standard, emphasizing that this approach aligns with the will of the people. He encouraged individuals to follow their conscience, religious beliefs, or faith regarding this contentious issue.
This declaration from the former president comes shortly after the Supreme Court, featuring three justices appointed during Trump’s presidency, overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022.
Trump has claimed credit for the progress made by the anti-abortion movement, asserting that his influence was instrumental in shaping abortion restrictions such as those at six weeks, ten weeks, or 15 weeks.
In his video message, Trump also reiterated his support for maintaining the legality of in vitro fertilization (IVF) nationwide. This stance contradicts a recent ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court, which opened the door for medical facilities to face legal consequences for destroying frozen embryos. Despite this legal development, Trump remains firm in his support for IVF treatments nationwide.
