The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is launching a billboard campaign in Florida to criticize former President Donald Trump’s stance on abortion following a recent state Supreme Court decision allowing a ban on the procedure after six weeks of pregnancy.
The campaign will feature billboards across various cities in Florida, including Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Daytona Beach. The message will be displayed in both English and Spanish, stating, “Abortion is banned in Florida thanks to Donald Trump. He won’t stop until it’s banned nationwide.”
DNC spokesperson Jackie Bush emphasized Trump’s role in restricting abortion rights, asserting that he is responsible for limiting women’s ability to make decisions about their bodies. Bush highlighted Trump’s plans to pursue a nationwide abortion ban and called on women in states like Florida to oppose such measures at the ballot box in November.
The billboard campaign comes in response to the Florida Supreme Court‘s recent decision to uphold the state’s 15-week ban on abortion, which is set to be enforced from May 1. Additionally, the court ruled to allow voters to decide on a ballot measure in November that would safeguard access to abortion.
While Trump has not publicly commented on the Florida court’s ruling, he has indicated support for a 15-week national ban on abortion with exceptions for cases of rape, incest, and maternal health concerns.
President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign has also targeted Trump’s stance on abortion, framing him as a threat to women’s reproductive rights and pledging to uphold Roe v. Wade.
This landmark Supreme Court decision legalized abortion nationwide. Biden aims to restore federal protections for abortion rights, contrasting his position with Trump’s approach.
