The New York Post reported a meeting between Hunter Biden’s legal team and a White House aide, sparking debates over the possibility of coordination. This meeting, held with Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, and Anthony Bernal, a close aide to Jill Biden, took place in the White House’s East Wing.
Bernal, known for his close ties to the Biden family and his role at the Penn Biden Center besides classified material concerns, met with Lowell just days before Hunter Biden refused to comply with a congressional subpoena.
This refusal came as the House Oversight Committee intensively probed President Biden’s handling of classified documents. The committee, led by Chairman James Comer, has been vocal about its need for transparency, especially regarding any potential links between Hunter Biden’s legal challenges and the White House’s actions.
Comer has urged the White House to make details of such meetings public, seeking to understand whether President Biden attempted to influence the committee’s investigation.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, emphasizing Hunter Biden’s private citizen status, has not provided specific comments on these concerns, leaving questions about President Biden’s knowledge of his son’s legal situation and any possible interference in the congressional investigation unanswered.
Despite initial resistance, Hunter Biden complied with House investigators two months after his defiance. Still, the episode has fueled ongoing inquiries into the extent of the White House’s involvement in his legal affairs.
