In a recent discussion on Newsmax’s “Saturday Report,” Rep. Nicole Malliotakis from New York expressed strong criticism towards New York City Mayor Eric Adams for his claims that crime rates in the city have decreased despite a rise in violent incidents that have left many residents uneasy.

Malliotakis accused Mayor Adams of essentially gaslighting New Yorkers by denying the reality of their daily experiences with crime. She drew a parallel between this denial and President Joe Biden’s optimistic statements about the economy besides widespread financial struggles.

Malliotakis blamed the Democratic leadership, including President Biden, Governor Kathy Hochul, and Mayor Adams, for the crime surge, suggesting that their policies are to blame.

She argued that while some Americans might accept the Democrats’ narrative, a majority are becoming increasingly aware of the discrepancies between what is portrayed and their actual experiences.

Highlighting the political consequences of these policies, Malliotakis noted that her efforts to explain the reasons behind rising utility costs and crime rates have led to big gains for Republicans in her district, including flipping local assembly seats. She accused Democrats of underestimating the American public’s ability to discern the impact of these policies on their quality of life.

The representative also criticized Democratic stances on criminal penalties and immigration policies, suggesting that they allow repeat offenders and gang members, including those from Venezuela, to remain on the streets at the taxpayer’s expense. She cited offering luxury hotel rooms to these individuals as an example of misplaced priorities.

Malliotakis specifically mentioned the negative impact of crime in the district of [New York State Assembly] Speaker Carl Heastie, calling it “ground zero” for severe offenses.

She accused Heastie of exacerbating the situation for his constituents through supportive policies towards lenient criminal penalties and lax immigration enforcement.

Her comments reflect a broader critique of Democratic policies on crime and public safety, emphasizing a disconnect between leadership claims and the realities faced by New Yorkers and Americans more broadly. Malliotakis’s call to action urges voters to recognize these issues and vote for change to improve their communities’ safety and quality of life.
