Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea, aiming for Jersey City mayor, announced today a huge fundraising achievement of nearly $230,000 in the first quarter of 2024.
This adds to his all-in-all campaign funding of almost $300,000 since its inception, following a $59,254 collection in the final quarter of the previous year. Coupled with his substantial existing funds from his county commissioner account, O’Dea boasts an impressive war chest of nearly $650,000.

Expressing his enthusiasm, O’Dea highlighted the growing momentum and support for his campaign, emphasizing his commitment to standing up for Jersey City residents and promoting a campaign fueled by grassroots enthusiasm.
He emphasized the need for a leader who prioritizes the city’s interests over external political influences, positioning himself as a candidate focused on building a better city for everyone.
Will O’Dea Thrive?
O’Dea faces competition from other major candidates in the upcoming nonpartisan 2025 mayoral race, including former Gov. Jim McGreevey and City Council President Joyce Watterman.
Additionally, former Jersey City Board of Education President Mussab Ali has recently entered the race, while County Commissioner Jerry Walker and City Councilman James Solomon are potential contenders. Incumbent Mayor Steve Fulop’s departure to pursue a gubernatorial campaign has opened the field for these candidates to vie for the city’s top office.

Among the contenders, McGreevey stands out with substantial financial backing, having raised a remarkable $867,828 during the initial phase of his campaign. While McGreevey’s first-quarter fundraising figures are yet to be disclosed, his early contributions indicate a strong financial position as the mayoral race progresses.
