Mark Morgan, the former acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, strongly criticized President Joe Biden’s border policies during a Newsmax interview, labeling the current state of the U.S.-Mexico border as a “joke.”

Morgan highlighted a recent incident in El Paso where migrants allegedly disregarded and physically assaulted U.S. military personnel, advocating for those involved to be charged and deported.

Morgan accused the Biden administration of fostering unprecedented chaos and lawlessness at the border, a situation he attributes not to a lack of funding but to policy decisions that encourage illegal crossings.

He contends that the administration’s approach has effectively nullified the legal requirement to enter through designated ports, undermining national border security.

The conversation also touched on Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador‘s role in the migration crisis. Morgan suggested that López Obrador has allowed large numbers of migrants to cross into the U.S. with minimal interference, a stance he sees as motivated by a desire to keep Biden in office, which he equates to a form of extortion.

Morgan dismissed the notion that additional funding for border security would address the root causes of the crisis. Instead, he argued that policy changes are needed to curtail the Biden administration’s perceived open-border stance.

He criticized the administration and Democratic lawmakers for failing to enact meaningful border security legislation, referencing the stagnation of HR 2, a comprehensive border security bill passed by the House but ignored by the Senate and the President.

This critique underscores a broader debate over immigration policy and border security in the U.S. Morgan’s comments reflect dissatisfaction among some policymakers and law enforcement officials with the current direction of the Biden administration’s border and immigration strategies.
