In an interview with Newsmax on Monday, former acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker criticized Democrats for what he sees as their sole unity on the issue of abortion access, which he believes is divisive for the country.
Whitaker expressed support for former President Donald Trump’s stance on abortion, advocating for states to decide their abortion laws rather than Congress intervening individually.

Whitaker emphasized that Republicans, unlike Democrats, find bipartisan support on issues such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and assisting couples struggling with infertility. He highlighted protecting life as a fundamental pillar of the Republican Party and criticized Democrats for uniting only on the issue of abortion.
Regarding abortion laws, Whitaker pointed out the varying approaches taken by different states, from more liberal policies like those in California to more restrictive ones like those in Florida and Iowa.
He argued that allowing states to decide on abortion regulations aligns with the Constitution’s principle of states’ rights and would adapt to evolving medical and political landscapes.

In addition to his views on abortion, Whitaker criticized President Joe Biden‘s tactics in the 2024 White House race, particularly regarding expected announcements for more student debt relief. He characterized Biden’s actions as attempts to buy votes and questioned the source of authority for allocating taxpayer money for such relief.
Whitaker expressed concern about burdening individuals, such as plumbers and electricians, who may not have attended college or have already paid off their student loans, to finance debt relief for others. He concluded by condemning what he perceives as Biden’s attempt to buy votes through such measures.
