Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee expressed the Republican stance on the potential impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas during an interview with Newsmax on Tuesday.
Blackburn stated that while GOP senators anticipate Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s table of articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, the American people demand impeaching the Biden official.
She cited various issues at the border, including the impact of fentanyl poisoning, human trafficking, and the establishment of cartels’ hubs, as reasons for holding Mayorkas accountable. Blackburn criticized Mayorkas for allegedly facilitating the influx of unknown individuals into the country under President Biden‘s directives.
Blackburn noted that the House would present the articles of impeachment against Mayorkas to the Senate on Wednesday, and senators would be sworn in as jurors for an impeachment trial. However, she anticipated Schumer to move to table the articles, preventing the prosecution from proceeding, which she claimed had never occurred in the country’s history.
When asked about advancing the issue of impeachment in the Senate, Blackburn mentioned plans for a press conference to discuss potential obstacles and amendments to force the issue forward. She emphasized the need for bipartisan support to proceed with the impeachment trial.
Blackburn also criticized President Biden’s actions regarding parole, alleging that he granted parole to millions of people to inflate voting rolls in urban areas experiencing population decline. She claimed Biden’s parole measures aimed to maintain federal funds and congressional districts in big cities.
Blackburn’s remarks underscored the GOP’s push for Mayorkas’ impeachment, linking it to concerns about border security and alleged political motivations behind Biden’s parole policies.
