Representative Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida, shared her insights with Newsmax on Friday regarding the motion filed by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a fellow Republican from Georgia, to remove Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, from his position.
Luna expressed doubt that the House GOP conference would take action on Greene’s motion. During an appearance on “Wake Up America,” Luna was asked about Johnson’s recent meeting with former President Donald Trump and whether it would ease tensions within the chamber.

Luna indicated that Johnson likely benefited from Trump’s understanding of the country’s current pulse but expressed skepticism about any imminent move to remove Johnson from his role as Speaker.
Luna highlighted the slim majority held by Republicans in the House and suggested that some strategic resignations aimed to hinder their legislative efforts. She hinted at a forthcoming announcement, possibly from Trump and Speaker Johnson.
Responding to Greene’s motion to oust Johnson, Luna emphasized that the motion to vacate has a historical precedent dating back to Thomas Jefferson. She clarified that Greene’s actions were not aimed at causing chaos but rather sparking discussions within the Republican conference.
Regarding Johnson’s recent visit to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate to discuss election integrity measures, Luna noted the importance of such discussions, especially despite debates over reforms to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
Johnson’s support for reauthorizing FISA had drawn criticism from some fellow Republicans who view it as a threat to constitutional rights.
Luna expressed hope that Johnson would demonstrate strong leadership aligned with the “MAGA” (Make America Great Again) ethos. She underscored the importance of protecting constitutional rights, particularly in the context of FISA negotiations, and urged Johnson to support those efforts.
