Several Democrats involved in investigating former President Donald Trump’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021 protest at the U.S. Capitol are expressing concerns about potential retaliation if Trump returns to the White House, as reported by CBS News.
Trump recently posted on social media suggesting that former Rep. Liz Cheney and other members of the House Jan. 6 Select Committee should be imprisoned. Cheney, one of two Republicans on the committee, lost her reelection bid in Wyoming in 2022.

The committee dissolved after Republicans regained control of the House of Representatives in the 2022 midterm elections.
Representatives Adam Schiff, Pete Aguilar, and Zoe Lofgren, all from California, acknowledged they take Trump’s threats seriously. Lofgren emphasized the seriousness of Trump’s statements, stating, “When Trump says something, he intends to do it.”

Police officers who testified for the committee also expressed fears of retaliation under a second Trump administration. Harry Dunn, a former U.S. Capitol police officer and Democratic congressional candidate in Maryland, stated, “Anybody who has testified against him, or spoken out in a public capacity, should be worried.”
In response, a spokesman for Trump denounced the Jan. 6 committee as a sham and accused it of lying to the American public for years, asserting that it covered up evidence showing that Trump and his supporters did not engage in an insurrection.
