The Trump campaign and Republican National Committee (RNC) have outlined ambitious plans to deploy over 100,000 attorneys and volunteers across battleground states to monitor vote counting in the upcoming November election.
This initiative, described as “the most extensive and monumental election integrity program in the nation’s history,” reflects former President Trump’s continued focus on debunked claims of election fraud as he gears up for a potential 2024 White House bid.
The campaign and RNC intend to conduct monthly training sessions for poll watchers to monitor voting sites and tabulation centers, focusing on identifying and reporting any irregularities. Additionally, legal teams will be on standby to address any potential issues during the electoral process.
Former President Trump emphasized the importance of ensuring that ballots are counted accurately, echoing his campaign’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the election.
The initiative aims to cover various aspects of the electoral process, including early voting, mail ballot processing, and post-election audits. Each battleground state will operate a dedicated hotline for reporting potential issues.
RNC General Counsel Charlie Spies emphasized the need for a decisive Republican victory in November, underscoring the party’s determination to prevent any attempts to undermine the electoral outcome. The campaign also plans to leverage efforts around early voting and ballot harvesting, where legally permissible, to maintain parity with Democratic strategies.
The announcement coincides with the Justice Department’s efforts to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, including providing resources for election workers and voters to safeguard their rights. Attorney General Merrick Garland reiterated the importance of protecting the right to vote and defending against any attempts to undermine it.
Despite repeated dismissals of claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election, former President Trump continues to propagate these assertions, facing legal challenges in Georgia and Washington, D.C. However, such rhetoric has gained traction among some segments of the public, with a portion questioning the legitimacy of President Biden’s election victory according to recent surveys.
