Two influential members of the House Democratic Caucus, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), have endorsed former U.S. Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn in his bid for Congress.
On Friday, Pelosi took to the social platform X to announce her endorsement, stating, “Proud to endorse @libradunn for Congress in #MD03! Harry will defend our Democracy and fight for the people of Maryland.
He’ll work for transportation funding, lower taxes for working families, and protect the Chesapeake Bay.” Dunn launched his campaign for Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District in January, building on his reputation as a champion for democracy and justice.
In 2021, he testified before lawmakers about his experiences during the January 6 Capitol riot, including being subjected to racial slurs and witnessing attacks on fellow officers.
Clyburn also strongly supported Dunn, stating, “It is with the utmost confidence that I support Harry Dunn in his run for Congress. I first got to know Harry as a public servant who protected the seat of democracy.
It’s been no surprise to me that since January 6th, he has stood up for what is right and called out the extremist threats to our seat of democracy.” Clyburn praised Dunn’s experience, story, and selfless nature, saying they will be crucial in achieving a Democratic majority that can deliver results for the American people.
Dunn welcomed Pelosi and Clyburn’s endorsements, saying he was “deeply honored to receive” Pelosi’s endorsement and that he has “long admired” Clyburn.
His campaign has also received backing from other high-profile Democratic figures, including Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), and Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas).
